Kent Beer Tasting Panel Report. Spring 2024

Hello Beer Tasters,

Easter Bank Holiday.
It was a bit of a heavy Bank Holiday over this side of the county and a great success all-around (although my head hurt quite a bit on Easter Saturday).

It was good to see so many of you out and about and I managed to speak with people from 5 different Branches and 2 Head Brewers. I might have a Wantsum Brewery Tasting visit set up for July - more details to follow. I'm sorry if I didn't get to see you all. I had great feedback from those of you that I did get a chance to speak with.

I hope you had the chance to get out into the wilds of Kent wherever you are and drank some great beer.

Don't forget to dust the cobwebs from your fingers and get those Tasting Cards written and logged.

April Plans.
On the back of speaking to the other branches, I am making April a time to visit some of you at your branch meetings, and am concentrating on the ones where we currently have little presence.

Weirdly some branches have unusual ways of doing business and at least one hasn't had a branch meeting for quite a while. Please let me know if Medway and Swale have anything upcoming and I will try to come along.

Don't forget to push the CBOB (Champion Beer of Britain) agenda at your own meetings as things will be a little different this year and potentially next due to changes.

CBOB Contenders
I have attached an Excel spreadsheet which shows the current CBOB contenders, although I am not sure why the Cast Iron Stout is in 2 separate categories?: Kent CBOB Report 2024-04-06 (You'll need your CAMRA logon credentials to read the report).

One of the things I would like to do is get all the beers that we are thinking of forwarding to CBOB scored at least 3 times, by different tasters and in different venues.

On the back of this, please look out for; Gadds' Faithful Dogbolter Porter, Iron Pier Perry St. Pale, Goacher's Old 1066, Gadds' Seasider and Tonbridge Rustic.

Please don't feel any pressure, but ... If you see a Kent Beer on your travels please get it scored with a tasting card.

Looking forward
Let me know if you have any ideas for moving things forwards, especially if you are a BLO and think your Brewery would like us to visit.

Don't forget that the next meeting will be Wed, 17 April, 7pm – 8pm the link is available through the Kent Tasting Panel diary page.

Lets keep Kent Beer great, and I will see you out and about in our fantastic county.
