    Branch Chair Election
Martin Atkins has announced his intention to step down as our Branch Chair at the meeting. So, we will be looking for a member to step into this vital role.

Anyone wanting to put their name forward, should:

    • Email our Branch Secretary announcing a) their nomination, b) their willingness to stand and c) the names and membership numbers of a proposer and seconder.
    • This email should be sent from their email address, as registered with CAMRA.
    • The deadline for nominations will be Friday, 22nd May 2026.

    The Role of Branch Chair
The role of the Chair is to lead the branch, help to set its direction, encourage local CAMRA members to get involved and enjoy their branch activities, and to represent the branch at county and regional meetings (this task may be delegated).

More guidance can be found here: Branch Chair - Role Guidance

How much commitment will it take?
Hours are flexible to suit you but would usually be one or two hours a week except at key times, for example preparing for the Annual General Meeting.

Ideally you’d represent the branch at County and Regional CAMRA meetings which would help you with the role. This could be delegated if it’s not always possible to take part.

  • Canterbury CAMRA Cricket Tents 2026 Friday 19 – Monday 22 June 2026 Kent & Canterbury Club, Canterbury

Canterbury CAMRA will be running their popular real ale tents at Kent’s Spitfire Cricket Ground, Old Dover Road, Canterbury during cricket festival week. The match is Kent v Middlesex in the Men’s County Championship.

Below are the things you need to know.

    • The CAMRA tent is for CAMRA members and their guests only – it’s not open to the general public.
    • Admission to the CAMRA tent is free. CAMRA members (show your membership card, please) need to sign themselves and their guests into the visitor’s book - as many guests as you like, within reasonable limits!
    • However, you can join CAMRA at the tent. We also offer cricket-tent-only membership at a reduced price.
    • Admission to the CAMRA tent is free, but of course you will need to pay to get into the cricket ground (unless you are already a Kent CCC member). See the KCCC website, https://www.kentcricket.co.uk for admission details. Look under Tickets and Membership. It could be cheaper to get advance tickets or ticket bundles.
    • From the 19th to the 22nd, the CAMRA tent will be open from 10am each day until after close of play (about 7pm). The cricket starts at 11am. Keep an eye on cricket news to check that the match hasn’t ended early. Remember that County Championship matches may not last for 4 days. The CAMRA tent will not open on the fourth day, if the match has already ended.
    • We have our own private seating at the front of our tent, overlooking the pitch. If all the seats are taken, you are welcome to carry your drinks to other seating areas, but please ask us for plastic glasses if you are moving away from the tent.
    • We serve cask beer and cider, wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee. At our very successful 2025 tent we had 30 different beers and cider from 15 producers, mostly from Kent, but we only have 4 beers on at any one time to maintain quality. Usually a bitter, a best bitter, a golden ale and a dark ale. As one beer runs out, a new one is put on. This can happen very fast!
    • We are not allowed to sell food (except for crisps etc), but there are plenty of food outlets on the cricket ground.
    • We take cash or card payments. Beer is about £4 to £4.50 a pint. But note that the other outlets on the cricket ground are cashless.
    • All the surplus money from the tent is donated to two charities. This year the charities are Cancer Research UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK. We welcome donations of beer and cider from brewers and cider producers, and any offers of sponsorship are welcome.
    • Accessibility: if you have mobility needs, ask a steward the best way to our tent. Our tent is step free but on a bank, if you need assistance just wave to our entrance table. There is a special wheelchair hardstanding area next to the tent, and the Leslie Ames Stand next to us has disabled toilets.

For any questions, contact Gill Keay. Email moc.tenretnitb@yaekyrregdnallig, or ring 01227 463478 or 07976 431886 (text messages are usually best as I never seem to hear the phone).
